School Enrichment
The following programs and resources are available locally for youth participants, classrooms or homeschool groups.
- Elementary School
- 1st Grade - Chick Hatching - The Chick Hatching program is a four-week program for lower-elementary classrooms that provides real, hands-on experience with agriculture in the classroom. Students discover an understanding of life cycles, the ag industry and develop general life skills by working as a team, caring for animals and giving generously.
- 3rd Grade - Monarchs on the Move- This Challenge is a STEM-focused annual program that challenges young people to explore issues, foster critical thinking skills, and engage with a real-world agriculture challenge. The Monarchs on the Move challenge focuses on the importance of biodiversity, specifically as it relates to monarch butterfly habitats.
- Activity 1: Background on monarch migration, the lifecycle of the butterfly and monarch decline.
Activity 2: Experience life as a caterpillar on a milkweed plant
Activity 3: Explore practices that enhance habitat for monarchs and other pollinators
Activity 4: Plant a milkweed seed to increase habitat

- 3rd Grade- Safety Day Camp- The Wright County Extension Office and Wright County Farm Bureau will host the 17th annual Safety Day for 3rd Graders in Wright County in September 2025. The date will be released soon! Youth in 3rd grade from Belmond, Clarion, and Eagle Grove school districts rotate through stations focusing on different safety topics. Lunch is provided.

- High School
- Ag Career Exploration Day - Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is excited to announce a new Ag Exploration Day on September 10, 2025, for area high school students this upcoming fall at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Northern Research and Demonstration Farm in Kanawha, Iowa.
- This event will host 9-12th grade agricultural education students and teachers from North Central Iowa. Every high school in Wright, Hancock, and Kossuth County is invited to participate at this daylong event. The global purpose of the North Central Ag Exploration Day is to engage students in hands-on learning, to “grow our own” workforce, and create awareness of the endless career possibilities right here in North Central Iowa. The goal is to connect youth with local collegiate, business and industry leaders, thereby creating awareness of the ever-evolving agriculture industry. This event aims to assist future agriculturists in meeting the challenge of producing enough food to feed nine billion people by 2050.
