Iowa State University Extension and Outreach summer interns are making a contribution to Extension and Outreach educational efforts throughout Iowa.

Many Iowans head to the Iowa State Fair with their favorites in mind – things to do and see, new foods to try, exhibits and shows that can’t be missed. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, with a reputation for helping Iowans reach their goals, is ready to assist at state fair, too.

A special exhibition, 4-H Show Iowa, will provide state level recognition to partially replace the loss of learning opportunities due to the postponement of this year’s Iowa State Fair. Included in these virtual celebrations are 4-H Exhibits, Communication Events and the Awardrobe Clothing Selection.

Nearly 3,200 static 4-H exhibits created by 2,642 youth exhibitors were displayed in the Bruce L. Rastetter 4-H Exhibits Building at the 2021 Iowa State Fair. Each exhibit is an outgrowth of year-long project area work done by the 4-H member.

Iowa 4-H is seeking agriculture industry employers from across the state to complete an online survey as part of a Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture across America grant. The project entails assessing career pathway awareness and identifying ways to increase youth knowledge of careers in agriculture.

Mitchell Hoyer has been named the director and state program leader for 4-H Youth Development with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Hoyer has served as the interim leader for Iowa 4-H Youth Development for the past year.
