AMES, Iowa – Youth from northeast Iowa gathered at Starmont High School in Arlington on June 10 for the 2025 Iowa 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest. Thirty-four 4-H members from Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette and Winneshiek counties showcased their dairy knowledge, competing in fast-paced rounds that tested their understanding of dairy nutrition, anatomy, herd health and industry practices.

“The Dairy Quiz Bowl is more than just a competition — it’s a dynamic way for youth to build confidence, deepen their knowledge and connect with others who are passionate about the dairy industry,” said Celine Beggs-Shoemaker, 4-H animal science education specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Delaware County won the grand champion title in the senior division following outstanding performances from Tyler Hoeger, Ford Domeyer, Madalynn Arnold and Braden Ronnebaum. Fayette County placed second, earning the reserve champion title with team members Lily Holthaus, Kelsey Timp and Jayden Timp.

Delaware County’s Team KLM earned the grand champion title in the intermediate division with team members Karl Zumbach, Logan Voekler and Morgan Hoeger. Dubuque County took the reserve title with team members Adley Rae, Carson Rauen and Ellie Simon.

Delaware County continued its winning streak in the junior division, earning the grand champion title with team members Anna Zumbach, Katie Voekler, Kaitlynn Arnold and Will Zumbach. A mixed team of youth from Winneshiek and Delaware counties earned the reserve title in the junior division with members Luke Schnittjer, Derek Voelker and Jared Schmidt.

Before the team rounds, each participant completed a written exam. These individual scores helped determine team seeding and contributed to final match results. The top individual scorers in each division were:

  • Junior Division: (tie) Anna Zumbach and Will Zumbach of Delaware County
  • Intermediate Division: Adley Rae of Dubuque County
  • Senior Division: Tyler Hoeger of Delaware County

The Iowa 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl would not have been possible without support from volunteers, coaches, the Iowa State University Department of Animal Science, the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dairy Team and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
