Come and join us for a summer of fun, excitement, new adventures and explorations. Listed below is our lineup of Summer Programs designed for hands-on educational learning for all ages of youth. You must use the registration form (found below) to sign up for events. 

When: Wednesday, May 29 

9:00 am - 12:00 pm 

Who: K-3 graders 

What: Youth will create 3-4 hands on projects, using multiple materials, and exploring different artistic techniques.

Where: North Iowa Community School

  • Use door #3, the east door to Elementary Office door. 
  • 111 3rd Ave NW, Buffalo Center  

4-H Member Cost: $5.00

Non-4-H Member Cost: $10.00

Who: 4-12 graders 

What: Come and learn more about demonstration, public speaking, posters and more. Join us to learn the basics of communications and ways to share your skills and knowledge. Learn what judges are looking for during a contest. Get your presentations started so you can get registered to participate at the 2024 Winnebago County Fair!

Where: Lake Mills Community School 

  • Use door # 1, the north door to the High School/Middle School Office 
  • 102 South 4th Ave East, Lake Mills 

Cost: FREE

When:  Tuesday, June 4

10:00 am - 12:00 pm 

Who: 4-12 graders 

What: Join us to learn more about container gardening while completing your exhibit for county fair. Youth will leave this workshop with a decorated and planted Flower Bucket for the Winnebago County Fair. Workshop participates will have the opportunity to use paint and other accessory items to decorate their buckets during the workshop, peanuts and soil will also be provided.

  • Youth will need to provide:
    • A four (4) or five (5) gallon bucket to use as a planter. Please have bucket spray painted with a base color of your choosing for your design.
    • Plants and/or flowers for their planter.
  • Please see the 2024 Winnebago County Fair Book for all rules to help you choose appropriate plants, flowers, and base paint color.

Who: K-3 graders 

What: Join us learning about and exploring nature with all of our 5 senses. Youth will learn about and create fun projects using natural items.

  • Youth will provide their own sack lunch.  

Where: Pammel Park at the Lions Shelter, enter Pammel Park from road behind the Emergency Services Building 

  • US-69, Forest City (look for 4-H Clovers to point you in the right direction) 

Rain Location: FC Emergency Services Building 

  • 105 HWY 69 S, Forest City

9:00 am - 12:00 pm 

Who: 4-12 graders 

What: Are you confused when you read the fair book trying to figure out the difference between Sewing and Needle Arts VS Clothing and Fashion? What‘s this Clothing Event all about? Join us at this workshop and get all of your questions answered! Youth will leave with tips, tricks, and some new skills related to clothing, fashion, and sewing.

Where: Lake Mills Community School 

  • Use door # 2, the north door between the Elementary Office and High School/Middle School Office doors.

9:00 am - 11:00 am 

Who: 3-8 graders 

What: Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of a movie theatre? Join us to explore The Forest Theatre to learn what happens behind the curtain. You will create your own movie theatre related souvenir as a keepsake.

Where: The Forest Theatre 

  • 215 N Clark St, Forest City

When: Tuesday, June 18 

9:00 am - 3:00 pm 

Who: 4-6 graders 

What: Join us for a day filled with learning all about bread. You will learn and bake at least two different bread recipes. You will leave this session understanding the history and science of bread making.

Where: NSB Bank

4-H Member Cost: $10.00

Non-4-H Member Cost: $ 15.00

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm 

Who: K-3 graders 

What: Youth will use their creativity to creating skills to create their own flowerpot candy jar. 

Where: Winnebago County Extension Office

When: Monday, July 1 

9:00 am - 12:00 pm 

Who: 4-12 graders 

What: Create a balanced, nutritious meal plan for a family of four that includes a serving from each of the five food groups with a budget of $11.00. Youth will start with exploring different recipes and learning about cost saving shopping tips. Once youth have created their plan and shopping list youth will be given a chance to go shopping at Hy-Vee for the groceries to create their $11.00 meal at home for their families. Parents are welcome to join in and help their child shop.

Where: Drop off at NSB Bank, Pick up at Hy-Vee

  • Hy-Vee - 315 US-69, Forest City 

Cost: Youth must bring $11.00 or have a way to pay for the groceries at the end

When: Monday, July 8

7:00 am - 8:30 pm 

Who: 4-8 graders 

What: Tour Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins. Discover the science of baseball and explore the Science Museum of Minnesota. In addition to the $25 registration fee youth will bring their own sack lunch and $10-15 for fast food supper on the way home. Optional, youth will need to bring additional money for souvenirs.  

Where: Meet at Forest City Hy-Vee parking lot to get loaded. We will then travel to Hancock County Extension Office for our final pick up. 

Cost: $25.00 at the time of registration 

Register by: Tuesday, July 2. Limited to 35 (2 counties) 

When: Friday, July 12

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm 

Who: 4-12 graders 

What: Learn the art of floral design and flower arranging through a hands-on workshop.

  • If you want to exhibit the item, you make at this workshop at the 2024 Winnebago County Fair it must be entered into FairEntry by June 15.
    • Enter this project into Class 11022: Small Flower Arrangement

Where: Winnebago County Extension Office

When: Thursday, July 11th 

  • Conference judging times will be sent to exhibitors at a closer date. 

Who: 4-12 graders who are exhibiting in the following classes: $20 Clothing Challenge, Fashion Revue, Clothing Selection, and Innovation Design. 

What: This is conference judging for the above events.
