Washington County Extension Clover University Camps Open for Registration

Washington County Extension and Outreach’s summer day camps “Clover University” scheduled  eight individual day camp opportunities.  These camps serve a variety of ages from kindergarten – 6th grade.  Camp flyers will be sent to the schools the week of April 17.  All registration links and detailed camp descriptions are below

“Steamin’ Through the Seasons” is for youth who just completed Kindergarten-1st grade as of June 2023.  Participants will take a hands-on tour of Iowa as they design and build a tricky tower, discover a famous marshmallow treat, travel through Iowa using coding and robots, and create an art piece titled “Hour at the Fair”. Hands-on STEM, snacks, and laughter included!  Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch.  The cost is $25.  Camp runs June 7 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m at the basement of Dallmeyer Hall in Washington.  Register for Steamin’ Through the Seasons here.

STEM Lit To Go!- Iowa is for youth who just completed Kindergarten-1st grade as of June 2023.  Kids become scientists and engineers as they observe worms, design a boat that floats, test a water transportation device, study the life cycle of the apple tree, and take home a delicious gift in a jar.  They will go home messy and tired!  Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch.  The cost for this camp is $25.  Camp runs June 14 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m at the basement of Dallmeyer Hall in Washington.  Register for STEM Lit to Go! “Fizz, Bubble, Goo” is for youth 2nd -3rd grade as of June 2023.  Create amazing chemistry experiments, learn about the states of matter, make slime, and observe chemical and physical changes before your very eyes!  Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch.  Camp will be held June 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall on the Fairgrounds in Washington.  The cost for this camp is $25.  Register for Fizz, Bubble, Goo here.

“Ag Day Farm Tour” is open to youth 4th-6th grade as of June 2023.  On this Ag Day Farm Tour for youth, participants will travel via bus together to special farm stops across the county. Stops include Hill Top Dairy, Orange Acres Pumpkin Patch, Brenneman Pork, Berdo Cattle Farm, and a FarmChat® with an area turkey farmer.  Students will learn more about animal and plant science.   A lunch sponsored by Washington County Cattlemen will be provided along with several snacks throughout the day.  Camp will be held June 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with start and end location at the Extension Office in Washington.    The cost for this camp is $25.  Register for Ag Day Farm Tour here.

“On My Own & Ok ” is open to youth 4th-6th grade as of June 2023. Youth left home by themselves without self-care skills may find ways to occupy their time that parents or guardians do not support. Some young people may truly be fearful of staying home alone. On Their Own and OK builds skills in youth, as well as incorporates ways for parents or guardians in the home to support this step toward independence.  Camp will be held June 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Dallmeyer Hall in Washington.  The cost for this camp is $25.  Register for On My Own & Ok here.

“Sprouting Up Science!” is for youth 2nd -3rd grade to have an action-packed day all in the name of growing.  They will roll up their sleeves, dig hands in soil, plant seeds, learn how to grow food, taste test foods, learn how to compost, and take home something that grows.  Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch.  Camp will be held June 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Dallmeyer Hall in Washington.  The cost for this camp is $25.  Register for Sprouting Up Science here.

“Babysitting Basics” is a week-long course to teach the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect, caring for infants and toddlers, age-appropriate toys, how to handle emergencies and basic first aid.  This camp is open to youth who have completed 5th grade.  The cost for this babysitting training is $30.  Participants will receive a babysitting starter bag full of goodies.  Camp is held at the Washington County Extension Office.

Space is limited to 20 registrations for each camp. Registrations should be completed online at the specific camp links below.  Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis while space is available as payments are received.   Scholarships are available upon request.   Make payments to Washington County Extension Office.  The fees for service are used to offset the direct expenses of the program and to support the 4-H Youth Development County Extension Program.   No refunds after June 1 unless camp was canceled due to low registration numbers.
