Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach’s annual STEM Fest at Northwest Iowa Community College will begin accepting registrations on October 8. The 2018 Fall STEM Fest will be held Saturday, October 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. STEM Fest is open to all area 4th through 8th grade students, but maximum capacity is 80 students. The event offers youth an opportunity to take part in multiple hands-on applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

A beginners babysitting course will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the ISU Extension and Outreach office located at 340 2nd Street SE in Primghar. The workshop is open to 4th graders and older, and will cover healthy snack options, First Aid and emergency preparedness and changing diapers. In addition, participants will design their own babysitting bags and fill them with age-appropriate activities. Agricultural lenders will receive current useful, research-based information during the Siouxland Ag Lenders Seminar on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Triple Box near Orange City. Lenders who serve agricultural clients - especially those who work with dairymen - in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota are encouraged to attend as the seminar will focus on agricultural market outlooks, the farm bill, financial recordkeeping and accounting, and insurance and farm safety procedures.

Parents of preschool-age children are invited to join “Family Storyteller” for three sessions at the Paullina Public Library on Tuesdays, Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Books, home activity kits, snacks and crafts are all a part of these free fun-filled, enjoyable evenings with your children. The “Family Storyteller” program helps parents prepare their children to succeed in school and watch them grow in independence. Parents learn reading techniques and practice reading books to their children. Additionally, fun language and craft activities complement the books and extend the learning.
