Local businesses and organizations are invited to attend or send employees to a two-hour workshop entitled “How to Turn Travelers into Customers.” Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will host the workshop on March 6 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Chamber’s Community Room. The workshop is especially designed for small business managers, community tourism leaders and frontline employees who interact with community visitors, including retail, convenience stores, restaurants, attractions and lodging.

The O’Brien County Extension Office is seeking a summer Youth Assistant to work approximately the middle of May to middle of August, 2018. This person needs to have good communication and organization skills and the ability to work with both youth and adults. A 4-H background is helpful, but not required.  Please submit a cover letter, resume and 2 references to O’Brien County Extension. Application deadline of March 15, 2018 or until the position is filled.

Grant Writing 101 will be hosted at the Sioux Center Library on Feb. 27 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Representatives of nonprofits, local government and schools are invited to attend. The workshop will provide hands-on training in seeking and writing successful grant applications.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach invites area residents to attend a workshop focused on improving swine management and extending the life of hog buildings and facilities. The workshops will be hosted by ISU Extension and Outreach Agricultural Engineering Specialist Kris Kohl and Swine Specialist Dave Stender.
