___(Name)____ Receives Advanced City Clerk Training
___(Name)___, ___(Town)___ has completed the second session of a three-part curriculum in municipal management that leads to professional certification. The five-day Municipal Clerks Institute was conducted by Iowa State University Extension July 21-25 in Ames. Topics for the session ranged from use of computers in city government to tours of municipal facilities in Ames, including the waste recovery plant, the water plant, and the police station.
The session opened with a review of written communications used in city council business. There were presentations on conducting effective meetings, working with elected leaders, ethics for public officials and municipalities, introduction to the Internet, record keeping and the roles of municipal clerks in local government.
The program is sponsored by the ISU Extension Office of State and Local Government
Programs in conjunction with the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association.
Instructors include ISU faculty, extension staff, bonding attorneys, accounting
experts and city clerks who have completed the Institute. The Iowa State University
program was one of the first offered in the United States, and is among the
largest of 44 similar programs offered in other states and Canadian provinces.
Participants in session 2 will have the opportunity to attend the final session
of the three-part curriculum in July 2004.
