Manure Applicator Certification Training

For manure applicators renewing or getting you initial certification, registration is required. Please call your local county extension office to schedule time to watch the Manure Applicator Certification Program. 
If you don’t want to wait, please use the DNR Manure Applicator Certification E-Learning site: https://elearning-dnr.iowa.gov to renew your certification or to get your initial certification.
To take the education course online, applicators will need to register for an IowaID. This can be done by clicking on the E-Learning link above and following the prompts. Applicators can pay certification fees online or mail them to the DNR at Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Manure Applicator Certification, 502 E 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50319-0034.
Confinement Site Manure Applicator Certification will be held in 57 counties across Iowa. Find a complete list of locations here.


Introductory RUSLE2 and Iowa Phosphorus Index Workshop to be held on March 7 in Altoona, IA

An Introductory RUSLE2 & the Iowa Phosphorus Index workshop will be held at ISU Extension & Outreach Polk County Office in Altoona, Iowa on March 7, 2024 from 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM. RUSLE2 and Iowa phosphorus Index are required to determine risk ratings for nutrient management and manure management in State of Iowa. The workshop will be taught by Kapil Arora & Dan Andersen, ISU Extension and Outreach, Chandra Shaw, USDA – NRCS, and Jeremy Klatt, Iowa DNR.
Each registrant must bring a Microsoft Windows compatible laptop computer equipped with a USB port and Microsoft Excel Software. The majority of work done during the workshop will require the use of Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation 2 (RUSLE2) and Iowa Phosphorus Index Calculator. Latest versions of these programs and associated information will be provided on a flash / thumb drive. Registrants must have administrative password for the laptop they bring to the workshop to be able to install software. Class size is limited to 30 participants. Use of RUSLE2 & Iowa Phosphorus Index in Iowa DNR and NRCS Plans and in manure management planning will be discussed in the workshop.
