Midwest Compost School 2023

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in collaboration with Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Iowa Composting Council, will host a specialized three-day school for compost facility operators and professionals involved in composting. This school intends to educate participants about various aspects of composting, including feedstock selection, recipe development, operations, monitoring, analysis, odor and runoff management, marketing strategies, etc. The school will provide a special emphasis on food residuals composting. Compost facility operators, livestock facility managers, yard waste recyclers, waste generators, and others interested in composting should consider attending this school with includes a combination of hands-on training, lecture, discussion and problem solving. The school will be held at the Iowa State University Dairy Facility and Compost Site from June 20 to June 22, 2023. Registration fees, hotel accommodations, school agenda, and online registration can be accessed online the compost school website.

Manure Applicator Certification Training Online

For manure applicators renewing or getting you initial certification, due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, please call your local county extension office to schedule time to watch the Manure Applicator Certification Program. 
If you don’t want to wait, please use the DNR Manure Applicator Certification E-Learning site: https://elearning-dnr.iowa.gov to renew your certification or to get your initial certification.
To take the education course online, applicators will need to register for an IowaID. This can be done by clicking on the E-Learning link above and following the prompts. Applicators can pay certification fees online or mail them to the DNR at Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Manure Applicator Certification, 502 E 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50319-0034.
