Medication Administration Competency Skills

A course designed to address the principles and skills needed to administer medications to children while in child care safely. The course addresses the administration of oral medications, eye drops, ear drops, nebulizer treatments, inhalers, and epinephrine pens.

Intended audience: Individuals responsible for administering medication to children in Early Childhood Education (ECE) settings. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, assigned the role of medication administration (i.e., owner/director, on-site supervisor, lead teaching staff), and have completed the Essentials for Medication in Child Care (Module 6) before enrolling in the course.

Format: 2-hour online course

Certification: Approved for Iowa Health and Human Services (IHHS) Professional Development Credit (2 hrs. credit for online component, one hr. credit for in-person evaluation). The online course certificate is valid for five years.
