We believe that the Henry County Fair can be an exciting, educational and fun experience for everyone! The Extension Staff, Fair Board Members and FFA Instructors work closely with youth and adults to help ensure a positive exhibit environment for youth to showcase their year-long project work.

YQCA

FairEntry (county) - All 4-H'ers exhibiting projects/livestock must be entered by July 7th! NO LATE ENTRIES will be accepted! You may use this help sheet for assistance OR contact the Extension Office. 
 
FairEntry (state) - Eligible 4-H'ers (those in grades 5-12) intending to participate at the Iowa State Fair with livestock or animals must pay entry fees and complete online fair entry by July 1st at 11:59pm! 
**Animals must have been identified in 4-H Online by the designed due date.

All 4-H clubs are responsible for helping set-up the exhibit building on Tuesday, July 11th. Exhibit Building set-up will occur at 5:00pm. 

All 4-H Clubs are responsible for tearing down their club booth by removing 4-H exhibits, peg boards, and display boards on Sunday, July 16th at 5:00 pm.

Communication & Clothing

Educational Presentations, Extemporaneous Speaking, & Fashion Revue/Clothing Selection judging will take place on Friday, June 23rd.  

**Please register by June 19th by calling the Extension Office at 319-385-8126 or emailing sadiemar@iastate.edu

4-H Clothing Event & Share the Fun will take place on Wednesday, July 12th during the Queen Contest. 

Working Exhibits will take place on Friday, July 14th at 6:30pm

**Please call the Extension Office to sign-up for Share the Fun & Working Exhibits by June 30th.

Static Exhibits

ALL exhibit entries will need to be entered in FairEntry by July 7th. 

WRITE UP'S (written explanation about exhibiting) are REQUIRED!!

Beef

2023 Beef Show: Saturday, July 15 at 9:00am

Beef Carcass Scanning will take place Thursday, July 13th and will start at approximately 2:30pm. The company that scans the animals is coming from another county fair, so our schedule must be a little flexible. 4-H members must be present to bring their animals and assist with scanning. This helps keep the process running on time and ensure the correct animal is scanned. Please let the weigh-in staff know which animals are being scanned at the time of animal entry. 

Bucket Calves: must be born January 1 - June 1, 2023 and fed milk other than from the mother cow for at least 30 days. 

Participants must presently be in 3rd grade or older. Recordkeeping is a requirement. Call the Extension Office to register by June 1 and receive your packet of information for all bucket bottle animals. 

  • Picture ID form due to the Extension Office by June 15.
  • Record forms are due July 3.

Goats

2023 Goat Show: Sunday, July 16 at 11am OR 30 minutes following the Sheep Show.

Sheep

Swine

2023 Swine Show: Friday, July 14 at 8:00am

Swine pen set-up is SATURDAY, JULY 8TH at 8:30am! All 4-H/FFA swine exhibiting families need to help with set-up. 

Competitive Swine - you will be emailed a schedule for interviews at the fair.

Poultry

2023 Poultry Show: Friday, July 14 at 2:00pm

For those signed-up for the 2023 Henry County Fair Special Broiler Project, broilers will be delivered to the Extension Office in late May. You will receive broilers and record keeping materials. 

Broiler records are due to the extension office by July 1st

Rabbit

2023 Rabbit Show: Thursday, July 13 at 1:00pm

All rabbits must be tattooed and identified in 4hOnline.

Horse

Dog

2023 Dog Show: Thursday, July 13 at 10:00am

The first Henry County 4-H Dog Obedience Class is Tuesday, April 4th at 6:30pm under the Wright Pavilion at the fairgrounds.

All dogs need to be up-to-date on vaccinations and ID'd in 4hOnline with their current rabies certification number prior to the first session. Don't forget to bring your training collar and leash.
