Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is teaming up with Iowa DNR to host “Growing Up Wild” training online on Thursday, March 9 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

The Driftless Region Beef Conference, set annually in Dubuque, is known for providing current information for cow-calf production in the tri-state area of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. However, it’s also home to a significant amount of cattle finishing.

One year after skyrocketing 29%, the average value of an acre of Iowa farmland jumped another 17%, or $1,660, to $11,411 per acre. The nominal value of an acre of farmland is again higher this year than at any point since Iowa State University began surveying values in 1941.

Confinement site manure applicators and anyone interested in learning about manure issues should plan to attend a two-hour workshop offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in January or February 2023. These workshops are offered in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Registration is required. No walk-ins allowed.

Forty Iowa State University Extension and Outreach staff members were honored in October at the Iowa 4-H YouthFest professional development conference.

The 2023 Crop Advantage meetings will give producers a solid foundation of current research-based crop production information to help make smart, informed decisions for their farming operation.

Youth attended a day long 4-H summit at Upper Iowa University led by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach county and state youth outreach staff on September 20.

The Department is partnering with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to host in-person applicator testing sessions starting in September. In-person testing sites are in Black Hawk, Cerro Gordo, Dallas, Dubuque, Fayette, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Scott, and Woodbury counties. In-person commercial and private applicator testing is free. Pre-registration is required.

Forty Iowa youth, including Anna Egan from Westgate, are beginning their new terms as State 4-H Council members. These young leaders will serve as ambassadors for the 4-H Youth Development program throughout the state and in their local counties this year.

Susan Friedrich, of West Union, was inducted into the 2022 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 21.
