The ISU Extension and Outreach field agricultural engineering team has released a new podcast called “Engineering Your Farm.” The team works with farmers and agribusiness professionals to help improve the efficiency, profitability and environmental outcomes on farms and rural homesteads. The next session will feature winter ventilation strategies for dairy and beef cattle facilities, and is scheduled for Feb. 1.

Iowa producers have until March 15, 2021 to make their annual election for Price Loss Coverage or Agriculture Risk Coverage under the 2018 Farm Bill. In order to help Iowans understand their options for 2021, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering a series of webinars.

The popular ISU Extension and Outreach CropsTV program has provided a safe and accessible way to share crop production information and Certified Crop Adviser continuing education with farmer and agribusiness clientele throughout the winter. By registering today, CropsTV subscribers can interact live with specialists and presenters through Feb. 4 and have access to over 30 hours of on-demand content available for viewing on their schedule.

Due to COVID-19, the private pesticide applicator Continuing Instruction Course program is offering additional live virtual courses. For these courses you will connect from your home or another place with a good internet connection. Contact a participating county office to preregister. Applicators have until April 15, 2021, to attend a P-CIC program.

Livestock producers and agribusiness professionals are invited to a webinar discussing climate and weather predictions for the 2021 growing season. The webinar, set for Wednesday, Jan. 20, from noon to 1 p.m., features Dennis Todey, director of the United States Department of Agriculture's Climate Hub in Ames.

Beth Doran, beef specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, said Todey will bring accurate and important information for those who work with livestock and crop production agriculture.

Raising children has its rewards and challenges, but the COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it new challenges for families, says Malisa Rader, a human sciences specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

“ACT Raising Safe Kids” teaches positive parenting skills to parents and caregivers of children from birth to age 8. The series of lessons begins Feb. 2 and is sponsored by ISU Extension and Outreach.

The Ag Chemical Dealer meetings have transitioned to virtual delivery. This year’s featured topic is sprayer cleanout to minimize tank contamination. These meetings will also feature a short crop disease and insect update covering topics like Sudden Death Syndrome in soybeans, tar spot in corn and corn rootworm. The session will be offered from 9 am to 11:30 am on Dec. 8, and from 1 pm to 3:30 pm on Dec. 15.
