SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!
Institute: July 20-24 & 27-29 | Academy: July 29-31
The dates for the 2020 Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute and Academy have been set. The location of both the Institute and the Academy will be at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center, Ames, IA. Registration materials will be released in early 2020.
The Institute will be held July 20-24 and 27-29. Note: the clerk and finance specialized certification courses are the second week. The registration fee for the Institute will vary by class and number of courses taken. Participants are allowed to register for as many classes as they like during the two-week Institute period.
The fee for the three-day Academy (advanced education) will be $195 for July 29-31 sessions.
The Institute program offers educational programming that qualifies for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) certification. The Municipal Clerks Education Foundation (MCEF) of IIMC offers scholarships to attend Municipal Clerks Institutes and Academies in 2020. The IIMC Scholarship is now available. The scholarship program was established in 1986 for Clerks attending IIMC Institutes. For the 2020-2021 year, recipients will receive up to a $400 CMC or $400 MMC scholarship reimbursement after completion of the Institute or Academy. The 2020-2021 Scholarship Application Period is now open and goes through March 1, 2020. Recipients will be selected and notified in April 2020. A link to directions and the scholarship application can be found here.
The Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute (IMPI) and the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association (IMFOA) also have tuition scholarships available for 2020 on a reimbursable basis. The IMPI scholarships are open to ALL Iowa municipal clerks or staff within their office. The IMFOA scholarships are open to members of IMFOA (see IMFOA.org for details on membership). To be eligible for a tuition reimbursement scholarship, participants must demonstrate their city’s support to attend, register for and successfully complete at least 30 hours of classes. The deadline for submission is April 1, 2020. Please E-Mail or mail your completed application and the resolution of support from the City Council to: Sara Shonrock, Office of State and Local Government Programs, Iowa State University Extension, 2321 N. Loop Drive, Suite 121, Ames, IA 50010-8218 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Scholarships are awarded based upon need with the following criteria in mind:
- Council and/or self-financing of Institute registration fees is not available or overly burdensome to the municipal or individual budget;
- Attendance at Institute may not occur without scholarship assistance;
- Only one application can be submitted from a municipality
- A prior scholarship has not been awarded to the applicant
- Reimbursement will be made to the municipality within 30 days of successful completing coursework
Applications will be approved at the April IMFOA board meeting. No person shall be able to receive more than one scholarship. Receipt of the IIMC scholarship will take preference over the IMFOA or IMPI scholarships. If a person is chosen to receive more than one scholarship, he/she must accept the IIMC scholarship and the IMFOA or IMPI scholarship will be given to an alternate. If you receive a scholarship from IIMC, please contact Sara Shonrock so an alternate can be notified as soon as possible.
Other opportunities for scholarships may be through regional organizations in your area, please contact them directly for more information.
The scholarship and sample resolution of support are available. Remember the application and resolution of support is due in the Spring! For further information contact Sara Shonrock at 515-290-1811 (email@example.com) or Cindy Hopton at 515-294-8397 (firstname.lastname@example.org).
