Dog Workshops - 2024

Who: 4-12th grade 4-H/FFA members

When: Mondays at 6:00 pm

Where: Fairgrounds

Register: 4-H, none. FFA, email clinton4h@iastate.edu please.

Cost: free 

About: The dog committee will start dog obedience workshops on Monday, April 1! Workshops will continue every Monday (except Memorial Day) until county fair. Showmanship and Agility workshops will begin a few weeks after April 1. This makes 15 training class opportunities. Exhibitors must attend at least 8 classes to be eligible to show. Please review the fair book for additional rules.

Dog Orientation Meeting

Who: 4-12th grade 4-H/FFA members

When: Feb 20 at 6 or Feb 25 at 3

Where: Fairgrounds Auditorium

About: The Dog Committee invites you to attend a “Showing Dogs 101” meeting. This meeting is essential if this is your first year showing dogs. If you’ve shown before, you are still welcome to attend. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend with their youth.

YQCA Training Options - Mar/Apr 2024

About: It’s time to get your YQCA Certifications if you show... Beef, Dairy Cattle/Dairy Goat, Meat Goat, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, or Swine The goal of this program is to help youth and their parents better understand what they can do to produce the safest food possible. 4-12th grade exhibitors MUST have their certification complete by May 15! Email your certificate to clinton4h@iastate.edu or drop off at the Extension Office.

Rabbit and Cavy Workshop - April 2024

Who: 4-12th grade youth

When: Apr 7, 12:30-4 pm

Where: Muscatine Ag Learning Center

Register: None, unless you want to build a rabbit carrier.

AboutSpeakers will discuss rabbit and cavy breeds and health. Youth are encouraged to bring their their rabbits and cavies (purebred guinea pigs) to be evaluated and to show them in a “practice” show. Rabbit tattooing and cavy tagging will be available. Rabbits and cavies may be for sale.

Youth can build a carrier by reserving supplies for a cost at Wolferabbit3@mediacombb.net or call Bill at 515-556-5123.

There is no need to register and no cost to attend (except for those youth who purchase rabbits or cavies and /or build a carrier and/or purchase rabbit or cavy equipment).

Youth will receive free tickets for drawings for rabbit and cavy supplies. Youth from Iowa and other states are encouraged to attend even if they are not enrolled in 4H or FFA.

Behind the Scenes of the ISU Fashion Show - April 2024

Who: 9-12th grade youth

When: April 19, all day

Where: Iowa State University

Cost: $10

About: Are you interested in fashion or want to pursue a career in the industry? You’re invited to attend Behind the Scenes Day for the Iowa State Fashion Show! During this event, youth will engage in hands-on activities and speak with current students. At the end of the day, students are invited to sit in the front row of the final dress rehearsal of the Fashion Show. Clinton County is working with Linn County to coordinate transportation. If you are interested in attending with provided transportation, please reach out by April 1!

Photography Workshop - April

Dianne will have her work on display at the DeWitt Community Library from April 14-May 14. We are lucky to have her teach our 4-H members a few trips and tricks!

Horse Fundamentals Virtual Program - Feb/Mar 2024

About: Join Peggy Auwerda, Iowa Equine Extension and Outreach Specialist, for weekly interactive ZOOM meetings to learn about horses.

Horse Fundamentals will focus on horse anatomy, colors and markings, gaits, and English and Western performance events. Interactive activities will be utilized for the program. Sessions are Thursdays from 7-8 pm and are recorded. More information online. Informational flyer for program.

Bucket of Blooms Open House - May

Are you getting excited about summer and the Clinton County Fair? We sure are! Thanks to generous sponsors, Clinton County 4-H is excited to offer two open-house opportunities for Clover Kids to learn how to plant their very own bucket of blooms! A parent or guardian must attend with the child. You do not need to bring any supplies!

 

Clover Kids will...

- select which flowers to plant, - learn where to place their bucket at home, - and learn how often to water their flowers.

 

Who: Clinton County Clover Kids members (K-3rd grade) with Guardian

When: Choose one of two times to attend: May 5 from 2-4 pm OR May 8 from 4-7 pm

Summer Discovery Day Camps - June

Typically held in June, Summer Discovery provides an opportunity for youth who have completed K-3rd grades to learn about a variety of STEM topics around Clinton County.

As of April 8, Summer Discovery registration is open for everyone! Camps are $30 each and are at different locations with a few themes. All camps start at 9 am and will conclude at 3 pm. Youth need to bring a sack lunch. Snacks/Water will be provided.  

Delicious Dough: This K-3 bread-themed day camp is in partnership with Everybody Kneads Bread. In this day camp, children will learn about, bake, and taste a variety of types of breads!

  • June 10 in DeWitt

 

Art Explosion: This K-3 day camp will have youth learning about the five elements of design in a day filled with colorful and fun art projects. Wear washable play clothes!

  • June 12 in Delmar

 

Up, Down, Spin Around: Have you ever been to a fair, festival, or amusement park with rides? Step right up and try your hand at midway games, roller coaster challenges and more during this fun-filled amusement park themed day camp.

  • June 17 in DeWitt

  • June 19 in Calamus

 

 

4-H Member in Training: This day camp will show youth the ropes of being a 4-H member this fall. We'll learn about the five 4-H priority areas of ag and natural resources, leadership and civic engagement, communication and the arts, healthy living, and STEM.
