February 25, 2021

Join 4-H members from Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Clayton and Fayette Counties for a fun filled adventure trip to central Iowa.  The adventure includes stops at the 1913 antique carousel in Story City, Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad, James H Andrew Railroad Museum & History Center, and the Iowa State University campus. Open to all 4-H  members currently in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Trip will be Thursday, June 10. The registration fee is $100.00.   Butler County 4-H is offering financial support for this experience. Space is limited. Registrations are due by April 30.

Butler County Extension in Allison is looking for enthusiastic person who will be responsible for assisting or leading 4-H and youth activities in Butler County. This individual must be reliable, detail-oriented, a problem-solver, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of teams of staff and volunteers.

Rural residents and those who associatewith them are encouraged to partake in a webinar series called “Rural Resiliency: Caring for You and Yours,” from 7:30 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. on four consecutive Tuesday evenings, March 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2021.

Sessions are as follows:

March 2 – Farm Stress Resiliency and Grief
March 9 – Personality Keys When “Married” to Farm Stress
March 16 – Dealing with the Stresses of Men, Women and Children
March 23 – Brain and Behavioral Health “Hacks” to Mitigate Distress

In response to high levels of both personal and financial farm stress, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering three “Farm Couple Getaways” aimed at farmers wanting to take advantage of activities to improve farm family communication, work on farm or family goal setting, farm transitioning, or who would just like a weekend away to discuss farm and family issues.     BROCHURE

The dates and locations for the “getaways” are as follows:

  • Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27 at Best Western Plus in Dubuque
  • Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, 2021 at Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah.                                                 
  • Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, 2021 at Lake Shore Center at Okoboji in Milford.

There is no cost to attend, as food, lodging and other expenses are being paid for by sponsorships. However, there is a $50 per couple deposit to hold each reservation, refundable on the second day of the event.

The “Farm Couple Getaways” statewide Gold sponsor is the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, with other local sponsors recognized at each local event.
