4-H Communication and the Arts programs work to engage youth through hands-on experiences that connect to their lives and respond to their interests. 4-H programs develop skills in design, creative expression, and communication to teach creative and critical thinking, self-expression, and inspire kids to explore future career opportunities.

Location: Iowa State University in Ames, IA
Cost: $575 includes overnight accommodation, supplies, basic linens, all meals | $325 for local commuters includes supplies, lunch daily
Age: Youth entering 9th-12th grades & current high school graduates


The College of Design at Iowa State University, in collaboration with Iowa 4-H Youth Development, offers an immersive summer experience that provides youth with a sense of what it is like to be a student in the college.

Design Dimensions focuses on 2D, 3D and 4D thinking across disciplines. Our on-campus experience is appropriate for students interested in all programs offered by the College of Design: architecture, studio/fine arts, community and regional planning, graphic design, interior design, industrial design and landscape architecture

  • For students entering 9th through 12th grades and recent high school graduates
  • Opportunities available for Science Bound students
  • Stay in an air-conditioned Martin Hall and enjoy programming at the College of Design during the day
