It might be easy to assume that young ones are not impacted by tragic events in other parts of the country, but children have a keen sense of radar and pick up on our body language, adult conversations, and news media stories. Malisa Rader, a human sciences specialist in the area of family life with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, suggests parents be reassuring, monitor their TV viewing when children are present and watch for signs of stress in their child.

 For 14 years, Teen Line has given Iowa teens a place to get their questions answered with reliable and research-based information through anonymous phone calls or online chats. Teen Line answers questions ranging from health and wellness to relationships to sexually transmitted diseases. This hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
