2021 Summer Camps

Looking for something new for the kids to do this summer? Check out the fun and educational camps provided by Woodbury County Extension! With a great selection of activities and research-based curriculum delivered by experienced 4-H Youth Development & Extension staff, your children will be able to expand their horizons and have a great time doing it at any one of our summer camps. Registration for all of the summer camps hosted by ISU Extension and Outreach - Woodbury County can be found on our Registration Page. Registration is open to the public and if anything should change with the schedule you will be notified immediately. Any cancellations would result in a full refund. Registration for camps listed as full is allowed and youth will be placed on a wait list. If participants cancel their reservation ahead of time or if extra space is made available, wait list participants will be contacted in the order in which they were received to fill in the open spaces. Listed below are all the camps scheduled for this summer!
 

Cooking Around the World

June 7-8, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Woodbury County Extension, 4728 Southern Hills Dr., Sioux City

Youth will get to travel the world right from the kitchen in this camp! They will develop their cooking skills and expand their palate by creating dishes from different cuisines around the world. In addition to cooking, we will be learning about the history, culture and dining etiquette of the dishes home countries. Of course, after we go over the basics of cooking and make our dish, we will be eating!

Babysitting Certification Class

June 7-8, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
1221 Pierce St., Sioux City

Youth will learn best practices when they are babysitting in this class. The participants will learn about safety including basic first aid as well as learn activities to use with the children they babysit. All participants will create a babysitting bag that they can take to all of their jobs and a certificate.

Fish With Me

June 10, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Little Sioux Park, 1746 O'Brien Ave, Correctionville

Come try your arm at fishing, learn the basics of baiting your hook and throwing a line in (fishing poles are provided). If a fish is caught, a demonstration on fileting fish and preparing it for the campfire will follow. Craft pole to make and take home.

Virtual Babysitting Certification Class

June 14-18, 1 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Interior Design Camp

Youth will learn basic elements of design, color theory and design principals. We will discuss furniture arrangement, room balance and traffic and circulation patterns to design a room.

Discovery Camp

June 16, 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Woodbury County Fairgrounds, Fair St. #206, Moville

Be prepared to play in the dirt! Youth will experiment with soil and water and discover what's in the soil they walk on every day. What happens when it rains and the critters and bugs come out? Learn how we can all protect our soil and water. Be prepared to get wet!

Colors in the Garden

June 18, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Youth will explore, create and learn about the many colors in the Marilyn Engle Teaching Garden. Campers will engage in hands-on learning opportunities about colors, do art projects and work and play involving the garden.

Farm to Fork

June 21-22, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Moville Community Center, 815 Main St., Moville

Youth will learn about nutrition through cooking. They will learn proper kitchen safety and how to read a recipe. This is a fun and interactive hands-on camp. Youth will have the opportunity to create several recipes and taste test them.

Art of Scrapbooking

Come join us and create a scrapbook using paper bags. Youth are encouraged to bring a few photos to add to their scrapbooks.

Jammin Camp

June 24, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Youth will learn the basics of water bath canning and jam making. Campers will prepare and can strawberry jam and will leave camp with two jars of strawberry jam that can be used as a -H fair exhibit if desired.

It's never too early to learn code! This interactive two-day camp is designed to engage K-3rd graders in hands-on robotics and coding opportunities. Youth will be introduced to basic coding concepts through games, robots and block-based coding programs. This camp builds problem-solving and creativity skills while having a blast with ROBOTS!

Intro to Lego EV3 Robotics

If you've never built an EV3, this is your chance. Youth will learn to build a robot, coding and programming. These robots have attachments and if you like Legos with motors, EV3 sensors are the 3rd generation of Lego Mindstorms.

Outdoor Adventures

July 26-27, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Southwood Conservation Area, 3402 330th St., Smithland

Youth will learn about the adventures within the Woodbury County parks. Campers will learn about hiking etiquette, fire starting, campfire cooking and more!

Intro to the VEX-Robotics

August 10-11, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
1221 Pierce St., Sioux City

Youth will learn to design, build and program a robot to do a variety of activities. Youth will develop a robot that can climb and incline, use sensors to make the robot identify color and sound to complete a task. This two-day camp will end with a parent showcase where youth will demonstrate the various robots completed throughout the day.

Imagine the Possibilities

Canvas Painting

Youth will follow step-by-step learning to pain their own canvas butterfly painting.

The fees for service will be used to offset direct expenses and to support the 4-H Youth Development and Local Foods County Extension Programs.

Grade levels marked are based on grades completed by youth.
Camps are subject to change. No refunds five days or less prior to the start of the camp unless there is an unforseen major life event.
*Full camps can still be registered for and youth will be placed on a wait list. If a spot opens up, wait list participants will be contacted in the order in which they registered for the opportunity to fill the vacancy.
