Southeast Iowa Agronomy in the Field Meetings Will Continue on Nov. 7th.

Meetings will start on Nov. 7 and run through March 2017

WASHINGTON, Iowa – Women landowners, farmers, conservationists and ag retailers will be meeting once again starting Nov. 7, 2016 for the Agronomy in the Field workshops, hosted by Meaghan Anderson and Rebecca Vittetoe, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomists.

The goal of Agronomy in the Field is is to increase women’s agronomic knowledge. Sessions are to continue this winter at the WasAgronomy in the Field was offered this past summer at the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Crawfordsville with the goal of increasing women’s agronomic knowledge from planting through harvest by spending time in the field. Topics covered this summer ranged from crop growth and development, weed identification, and management of disease and insect pests to water quality, soils, and soil sampling.

Sessions for Agronomy in the Field were put on hold due to harvest, but are set to resume this winter in a classroom setting. Dates for future Washington County Agronomy in the Field meetings include Nov. 7, Jan. 17, Feb. 7, and March 7. The group plans to cover topics like seed selection, herbicides and weed management program planning, and genetically modified organisms at these two-hour winter meetings.

All winter Agronomy in the Field Sessions will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at the ISU Washington County Extension Office in Washington, Iowa. For the first time, these sessions will also be offered by a web-conferencing program for those who are unable to travel to the meeting location.
