My name is Shana Hilgerson. This past summer I had the opportunity to work with ISU Extension and Outreach in north central Iowa, visited producers, farmer's markets, and held children's programs. I also got to travel the state as the Alternate Iowa State Dairy Princess, which was an awesome way to meet other inspiring young women advocating for their industry.
This spring break, while my friends went home or headed south to spend time on the beach, I traveled half way around the globe to spend my break on the Nile River! Iowa State University - Uganda Program hosted nine students this spring break at their new training facility in Kamuli, Uganda. We spent six days working with local schools and farmers in the rural area of Kamuli, and a few days traveling to see the beautiful country. For more about my travels, read my full article!
Cora Carpenter is the Women in Ag Student Assistant. This summer she was an Adventure Guide Intern at Fair Oak Farms.
