Agronomy in the Field Offered at Three Locations

Agronomy in the Field is a series of workshops for women designed to improve agronomic skills and increase knowledge for decision-making. This program is being offered in three locations in 2016. The original North Central co-hort will continue to meet once a month at the Northern Iowa Research Farm near Kanawha in Hancock County. The Central co-hort is new and will meet twice a month at the Smeltzer Iowa Learning farm in central Iowa near Otho in Webster County. The Southeast co-hort is also new and will meet twice a month at the Southeast Research Farm near Crawfordsville in Washington County.

Monday, August 22, 2016- Veterans, family, service providers, and policy makers came together to create a dialog during the 2016 ISU Veterans in Agriculture and Entrepreneurship Conference. Men and women sought a common ground while searching for a networking and educational opportunities.  


Gayleen Moellers Turned Knowledge into Practice with Heartbeat of the Farm

When the creamery that buys the milk from the Moellers dairy farm began requiring farmers to have Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Gayleen Moellers already had them in place. “I even had them posted on the wall in English and Spanish,” she recalls, “That was fun to say I already have this!” She adapted them from the example SOPs provided by a speaker in the Heartbeat of the Farm: Human Resource Management class she participated in. The class was Gayleen’s third farm management course for women as she previously participated in the Annie’s Project and Women Marketing Grain courses offered by Extension.
