ISU Extension and Outreach Women in Ag Leadership Conference
Whether you want to be an active leader within your farm family, create the agribusiness career path of your dreams, or influence local agricultural boards and committees, this conference will have something for you. The event will bring women together for inspiration, informal mentoring, new ideas and expanded skill sets around leadership. As we continue to grow the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Women in Ag program, we want to offer activities that are unique in our state, take advantage of university expertise, and support the community of women in agriculture.
The main leadership conference is taking place on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in Ames, Iowa. In addition, we are offering intensive workshops on Monday evening, November 27, 2017, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. These three hour workshops with dinner will focus on specific skill sets for professional and personal development.
Here’s a sneak peek at one of the intensive workshops.
Becoming a Cooperative Board Influencer
Did you know Iowa cooperatives generate more than $9 Billion in revenue? Agriculture, mutual insurance, and utility cooperatives have extremely low levels of participation by women on their respective boards. Across the nation, agriculture cooperatives have only 3 percent board representation by women. The good news is cooperatives in Iowa are seeking out more women leaders.
If you are just thinking about serving on a cooperative or other board, or in the midst of being the best board member you can be, this workshop is for you. Dr. Keri Jacobs, Iowa State University Economics Assistant Professor and Cooperatives Extension Specialist, will guide workshop participants in understanding the unique aspects of cooperative businesses, the role of the board of directors and how to be an effective and influential board member.
