“Connections, Challenges and Celebrations” is the theme of this year’s conference to be held on August 2, 2018 at the Iowa FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny, IA. The one-day program begins at 8:15 am and concludes at 4:30 pm. The cost to attend is $50.00.
The conference will feature ISU faculty members Kristine Tidgren speaking on how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act may impact people in agriculture, and Keri Jacobs speaking on producer cooperatives and membership in a dynamic marketplace.
Mary Kay Thatcher leads the day off with insights from her experiences working for Farm Bureau in Washington D.C.. She has personally traveled to more than 16 countries. Rebecca Long Chaney, Nebraska rancher and author of the Australian experience “Bulldust in My Bra,” will provide a powerful message on daring to risk life changes.
Conference favorites, Angie Treptow and Angie Setzer, will be back with their popular talks on financial strategies for producers and making smart marketing decisions.

For the third year, the ISU Women in Ag program is co-hosting the pre-conference tour with the IWIA. The pre-conference bus tour begins at 12:00 pm from the Courtyard by Marriot hotel in Ankeny, IA on August 1. For those that register for both the conference and tour on or before July 22, the cost of the tour is included in the $50.00 price of the conference registration. Women may register for the tour only through July 30, for a cost of $25.00.
Boxed lunches will be served on the bus, as the tour heads out to visit the Louis Dreyfus Ethanol plant in Grand Junction, IA. A visit to an ethanol plant was the top request from last year’s tour participants, and the IWIA is pleased to be able to respond to the feedback received. The tour visits both the ISU Dairy Farm and the ISU Ag 450 Farm which are across the road from each other. The ISU Ag 450 Farm is celebrating 50 years of student learning this summer, while the dairy farm was built in 2007. After a brief introduction, women will have the option of a touring the dairy farm or learning more about the student swine production unit.
The bus tour concludes with the pre-conference networking reception at the Geisler Farm in Bondurant, IA. Malinda Geisler will share her story of how this traditional third-generation family farm became a well-known central Iowa destination for its corn maze, pumpkin patch, Christmas trees and country-themed wedding venue. The networking reception will feature a barbeque dinner, marshmallow toasting, two story slide and fun photo opportunities.
Women registering for the IWIA conference may register to attend only the networking reception only if they are not able to spend the afternoon on the tour. The networking reception begins at 5:30 pm.
