Lean more about growing Hops in Iowa on March 10

With the popularity of Craft Breweries exploding around the state as well as the nation there is one essential element that is involved. Hops! Growing Hops is an emerging industry within the state of Iowa. Have you ever wondered if growing hops is right for you?

Join Winneshiek County Extension and Outreach and the Master Gardeners from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 10 at Pulpit Rock Brewing Company, Decorah, to learn more about this emerging crop.

The featured speaker of the event is Keri Byrum of the Cedar Falls Hops Company. Byrum is a horticulturist with a degree in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa and she also holds a Master of Science from the University of Delaware. She has worked in various horticulture positions in Florida including at SeaWorld and the Florida Extension. Cedar Falls Hops Company currently has 7 acres devoted to four different varieties of Iowa hops which they sell primarily in Iowa.

Byrum will be talking about the difference between wild and domesticated hops as well as how to grow and take care of them. The agenda for the night is as follows:
