Westfair

All entries will be made in Fair Entry.  The registration link will be open starting on May 15th to accept Westfair entries.  Check the 2023 Fairbook for exact deadline dates. 

4-H members should register in Fair Entry using their 4-H Online account credentials.  FFA members should create an account in Fair Entry and then choose their chapter from the list (see the flow chart below).

Westfair T-Shirts

All 4-H and FFA Westfair 2023 exhibitors will receive a Westfair t-shirt at no cost.  Make sure to order your t-shirt in Fair Entry by July 1.  If you are just showing static projects, please make sure to at least go into Fair Entry to enter one exhibit before July 1 to place your shirt order.  They will be ordered on July 2 to arrive in time for fair. 

If parents and/or leaders who would like a Westfair T-Shirt, please submit your order to the Extension Office by July 1.  Extra shirts are $15 each.  Checks can be made payable to ISU Extension. 

Fair Information

Iowa State Fair Livestock and Horticulture Entries due by July 1.  Members register through 4-H Online.

Westfair Entry Information

Communications

Educational Presentationss & Extemporaneous Speaking

Entries due in Fair Entry by July 1- The Educational Presentation contest will be held on Monday, July 24th at the Council Bluffs Library.  Participants may leave after they give their presentation (see schedule).  Educational Presentation awards will be presented on Thursday, July 27th at 5:30 p.m. in the Commercial Building. The Extemporaneous Speaking Contest will be Sunday, July 23rd at UMBA Hall in Underwood.  Awards will be presented on Thursday, July 27th at 5:30 p.m. in the Commercial Building.

Working Exhibits

Entries due in Fair Entry by July 1.  The Working Exhibits will be judged on Sunday, July 23rd at UMBA Hall (see schedule).  Participants will also be asked to give their working exhibit to the public at the fairgrounds on Thursday, July 27th at 4:30 p.m. (not judged/exhibition only).  Working Exhibit awards will be presented on Thursday, July 27th at 5:30 p.m. in the Commercial Building.

Share the Fun

Due in Fair Entry by July 1.  The contest will take place on Sunday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m. in conjunction with the 4-H Style Show in the Commercial Building.  


*Note - if you are doing a communication event with a partner or a team, each individual of the team must register in Fair Entry to receive premium money.


Poster Communications

Due July 20th before 11:59 p.m. in Fair Entry (judged on static exhibit entry day). 

Poster Communication Label - pdf version - word version.  Poster Communication Rules.  Attach the report to your poster and bring with your static exhibits on Wednesday, July 26 directly to the state fair booth. Special Poster Communication rules can be found in the fairbook (under the Personal Development section).

Thrifty Meal Challenge Poster Contest
  • Thrifty Meal Challenge Poster Label (worksheet) - word - pdf (attach to the back of your Meal Challenge Poster)
  • Thrifty Meal Challenge Posters are judged with Food & Nutrition on Sunday, July 23rd at UMBA Hall.  See the club schedule for details.
  • Deadline to enter Thrifty Meal Challenge is July 20th in Fair Entry.
Bucket of Junk
  • The Bucket of Junk is a county "for fun" contest where members receive a bucket of scrap metal and turn it into a creation.
  • Participants can work individually, with a partner, or on a team.  
  • 75% of the contents of the bucket must be used.
  • Buckets judged on creativity and construction.  Prizes will be awarded.  
  • Buckets should be brought to the Commercial Building on the first Wednesday of fair (check 4-H Focus for details).
  • Members must sign up via jot form by May 15.  Buckets will be assigned by first part of June.
