Friday Fun Days

West Pottawattamie Extension will be offering Friday Fun Days each Friday in June.  Friday Fun Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Pottawattamie Extension Office (unless otherwise noted). 

Participant grade is as of May 2024. 

There are no cost to attend the Friday Fun Days if you are a West Pottawattamie 4-H'er (courtesy of the Apple Pie Sale), non 4-H'ers are welcome to attend with a registration cost of $25.00 per camp session.  Each Friday Fun Day is limited to 15 youth per session.

Participants will need to provide their own sack lunch.  Snacks and water provided.

  • June 7th - Adventures in Babysitting - 5th-8th graders 

Do you have what it takes to be a super sitter?  During this 6 hour course, we will be exploring the 4-H/Army Child & Youth Services Babysitting Curriculum.  Participants will leave with first aid knowledge, magic bags, babysitting manual and a vast knowledge of how to safely promote themselves as a babysitter and start earning some $$ this summer!

  • June 14 - Growing in the Garden - K-3rd graders - FULL

Get ready to get your hands dirty at this fun day camp!  What is a tickle me plant?  What is a Mexican Jumping Bean?  We will be doing lots of horticulture and digging in the garden to make lots of fun discoveries about plants and the ecosystem that surrounds us!  

  • June 21 - Kids in the Kitchen - 4th-8th graders (location TBD) - FULL 

Like to cook?  Want to learn the science behind your creations?  Come to our Kids in the Kitchen Friday Fun Day where we will play fun games and learn about the food groups, My Plate, the Thrifty Meal Challenge, how to follow a recipe and make some great food too!

  • June 28 - Coding/STEM - K-3rd graders

Calling all coders!  Check out this Friday Fun Day if you are into coding, science, engineering and math!  We will have some fun with Bee Bots, Dash and Dot robots and so much more!  Learn basic block coding and how you can create your own games and fun!

Wednesday Project Exploration Evenings

4th-12th graders - come join us every Wednesday evening in June to explore 4-H project areas and give you some ideas for completion of fair exhibits!

All the Wednesday Project Exploration Evenings will be held at the West Pottawattamie Extension Office from 6-8 p.m.  Limit 15 participants each evening.  The Wednesday Project Exploration Evenings are only available to West Pottawattamie 4-H members.  The evenings are free of charge courtesy of the Apple Pie Sale!

  • June 5 - Visual Arts (painting)

Penny's Visions Gallery (Penny Christensen) will be our guest presenter this evening.  Penny will guide us through the process to take our idea and turn it into a great work of art.  We will also discuss how to create an awesome visual arts write up (complete with design elements) for you to take to the fair.

  • DATE CHANGE - Thursday, June 13th -  Crocheting/Needle Arts (presenter Sue Smith).

Crocheting and needle arts are becoming very popular. If you want to learn basic needle arts (crocheting, felting, etc.) then make plans to attend this THURSDAY night!   

  • June 19 - Photography with Buck Christensen Photography  

Got a cell phone?  Come and learn how to turn those pictures into great pieces for the fair.  We will learn how to write a good photography goal, learn about rule of thirds, how to capture a subject and how to fill out those photography labels! 

  • June 26 - Speak It, Make It, Do It

Did you know that communications receive some of the highest premiums?  We will be presenting a communications workshop exploring presentations, extemporaneous speaking, share the fun and working exhibits.  Learn how you can participate in these super easy competitions!
