Healthy and Homemade Series

ISU Extension and Outreach Webster County will be holding Healthy and Homemade Series starting Wednesday, October 10. The first session “Slow Cooker Meals” will start at 6:30 pm at the Webster County Extension and Outreach Office. The presenter for this series will be Holly VanHeel, ISU Extension and Outreach Human Sciences Specialist, Nutrition & Wellness will be covering the following topics; identify foods that are appropriate to cook in a slow cooker, recognize benefits and features of a slow cooker, identify food safety and operating safety tips of using a slow cooker, identify safe cleaning procedures for the slow cooker, and recognize ways to adjust recipes for slow cooker.
Session two of the series will be held on October 17 with the topic being Cooking for One or Two and the third session will be October 24 at Hy-Vee for a Grocery Store Tour where participants will practice skills of buying fruits and vegetables on a budget, reading and comparing food labels, identifying whole grains and sticking to your budget.
