Chickens and gooseA Poultry Workshop for Backyard Flock Owners, presented by Christa Hartsook, Small Farms Program Coordinator for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will be held March 3 from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm at the Webster Co. Extension office (217 S. 25th St., Ste. C12, Fort Dodge).  There is no charge to attend, but please pre-register by March 1 by calling 515.576.2119.

You and your parents are invited to attend the Strengthening Families Program.  It's fun & free!  Evening meals are provided and free child care is provided for younger siblings.  Students receive $3 each week they attend.  This program has been successful over the past 16 years with more than 1200 families participating from the Fort Dodge area.

Iowaa State University Extension & Outreaach Women in Ag

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach – Webster County is offering a series of five classes including Market Outlook and Using Grain Options, Grain Contracts and Budgets, Land Info and Retirement Planning, My Grain Marketing Plan and Technology on the Farm. The classes will be held on Thursdays beginning Jan. 10, and continuing Jan. 24, Feb. 7, Feb. 21 and Mar. 7. The classes will be held in the Webster County Extension and Outreach Office. The cost of the series is $50 and includes light meals.

Grant OpportunityWebster County 4-H members may apply for the Webster County Youth Grant Program, which is an outgrowth of the Iowa Promise Grant due to the discontinuation of the Promise Grant Program after 2009. The Promise Grant was originally established in result of the 1998 Iowa Summit Initiative and its emphasis on youth and community service.

Suicide Awareness Ribbon

Suicide has been prominently in the news with the recent deaths of well-known celebrities.  According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), suicide is a major public health problem and a leading cause of death in the United States. The effects of suicide are often felt beyond the person who acted to take his or her life.  It can have a lasting impact on family, friends, schools, churches, work sites, and communities, says Malisa Rader, a human sciences specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
