Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator, Amy Green, received the 4-H Distinguished Service Award recently at the 4-H Youth Fest in Ames. This award recognizes county youth staff members who are making a long-term difference through their career.

Come spend the morning with Washington County 4-H at the Winter Project Extravaganza.  Projects include: Hats for Heroes, Acrylic Canvas Painting, Fused Glass Snowflake, Christmas Cookie Craze and Intro to Welding.  Open to any youth 4th grade and older. Click here for registration information.

This year Washington County is celebrating 100 years of organized county extension work. This long-established partnership with Iowa State University provides local citizens with access to education and university research, said Nancy Adrian, Washington County Extension director.  The celebration will be held in conjunction with the Thursday Farmer’s Market in Washington and a Washington Chamber of Commerce Alive After Five on October 11. Activities kick off at 5:00 with the opening of the market and the official ribbon cutting celebrating the 100th Anniversary.  Click here for flyer.

A veterinary feed directive (VFD) is a written statement given to an animal owner by a veterinarian that is similar to a prescription.  Youth must obtain a VFD order from their veterinarian to get the VFD feed.  Click here for guide.
