Clover University

The Washington County Extension Office has 18 individual day camp opportunities called Clover University for PreK through middle school youth. The camps are being offered this year in Ainsworth, Riverside, Kalona, and Washington. Camp flyers will be sent out to the schools week of April 15.
 

“Welcome to the Jungle” day camp is for youth who have completed one year of preschool during the 2018-2019 school year. Youth will explore together on a jungle safari to discover wild animals and cool habitats. They will be creating and playing as they immerse themselves in jungle life. Beverages and snacks will be provided. The cost for this camp is $10. Only $5 for Riverside residents in Riverside thanks to support from Riverside City Council. Camp runs 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. with the same fun but the variety of locations hopes to reach more youth from every community.

“Magician’s Laboratory” is for youth who just completed Kindergarten-1st grade as of June 2019. Be a magician for the day and make wands, stir up potions, build screaming balloons, wear wizard hats, put on a magic show with worms, exploding soda, invisible ink and more! Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. The cost for this camp is $20. Only $10 for Riverside residents in Riverside thanks to support from Riverside City Council. Camp runs 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. with the same fun in variety of locations in hopes to reach more youth from every community.

“Snowtastrophe” day camp is for youth who just completed Kindergarten or 1st grade as of June 2019. Camp will be held June 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall. This day camp experience is an interactive, snowy robotics adventure designed to engage youth in hands-on robotics and coding opportunities. Youth will use Dot and Dash robots and tablets to complete snowy challenges and adventures. .Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. “Goo, Slime, Fizz!” day camp is for youth who just completed 2nd or 3rd grade as of June 2019. This camp is June 17 in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall on the faigrounds from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will never be a dull or clean moment. They will make their own bouncy balls and chewing gum and ice cream while learning about freezing points, polymers and more. At this camp, learn the mystery behind what fizzes, bubbles and goos. “Kids in the Kitchen” is for youth to learn and make yummy, healthy snacks while exploring different foods and safe handling practices in the kitchen. Healthy eating habits will come into practice in selecting snacks and youth will take home recipes. Older youth will work more in meal preparation and recipe reading and healthy recipe substitutions. Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. The cost for this camp is $20.

“Cooking Up Science: Clover Cookie Factory” is for youth who just completed 3rd-5th grade as of June 2019. This camp will be offered June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Dallmeyer Hall on the fairgrounds. Help the chefs discover what went wrong in the Clover Cookie Factory! Campers will learn what each ingredient does in a sugar cookie and use STEM to determine what went wrong. Everyone will get the chance to develop their scientist skills and solve the mystery! “Digging Deeper: Garden Sprouts Camp” day camp is for youth who just completed 2nd-3rd grade as of June 2019. Little scientists get their hands dirty while learning “Earth’s Recipe for our food”, Seed, Sun, Soil and Water. Get your magnifying glass out and explore the parts of a plant and discover how plants are important in our everyday lives. Youth take home plants. Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. The cost for this camp is $20. “Ramp up with Robotics” is a three day camp for youth who just completed 4th-6th grade as of June 2019. This camp will be offered July 28-31 in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall located on the Washington County Fairgrounds from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. Learn how to build and program Lego NXT Robots. Find out how to use sensors and program robots to meet a series of challenges. Compete with new friends and bots each day. Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day. The cost for this camp is $80. “Babysitting Basics” is a week-long course to teach the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect, caring for infants and toddlers, age appropriate toys, how to handle emergencies and basic first aid. This camp is open to youth who have completed 5th grade. The cost for this babysitting training is $30. Participants will receive a babysitting starter bag full of goodies. Camp is held at the Washington County Extension Office.

“Infinity & Beyond” is a special camp working in partnerships with our county summer reading programs. Watch for information coming from the local libraries for registration for this camp at the library. This camp will be a day of learning about space, building rockets, planet models and more!
- June 26 at Washington Public Library from 9:30-3:30 for grades 3 - 5
- June 28 at Kalona Public Library from 9:30-3:30 for kindergarten - 5 grade
 

Space is limited to 20 registrations for each camp. Clover University day camp flyer was sent home through the schools the week of April 15. Registration completed online on a first come, first serve basis. Scholarships are available upon request. Make payments to Washington County Extension Office.
