STEM Club Registrations Open for January and February

STEM

The 4-H After School STEM Club is now taking registrations for the January and February Sessions. This science club is open to all students in 3rd-5th grade. Washington County Extension & 4-H and Lincoln Elementary are partnering together with a sponsorship from Bazooka Farmstar and Premier 1 Supplies to offer additional and fun ways for Washington youth to interact with science more in a hands-on setting while making new friends and connecting with caring adults in the community. This club is open to any 3rd-5th grade student who wants to experiment more with science, technology, engineering, and math. Each session will use an Engineering is Elementary and State 4-H curriculum.

January Session is titled “Put a Lid On It”. Students will learn about the science of helmets as a bio-mechanical engineer. Students will learn more about the brain and the importance to protect it. They will learn about the technology behind a helmet, diagram the parts, and then design their own for the crash-test dummy helmet challenge. This group will meet on January 14, 21, 28 at the Lincoln Library. Registration deadline January 6. https://tinyurl.com/STEMClubHelmet

The February session is “A Long Way Down”. Students will become an aerospace engineer and use space technologies to design a parachute to be the quickest, carry the most and land the safest – or all three! Practice launches will teach about drag, atmosphere and engineering variables. This group will meet on February 10, 17, 24. Register by February 3 at https://tinyurl.com/STEMClubParachute

Registrations accepted on a first come, first serve basis online until sessions are full. There is a $10 fee for each session or $5 for current 4-H members. Students may register for one or both STEM clubs.

Parent volunteers are also needed and welcomed. Contact Amy Green at the Washington County Extension Office if interested in this position.
