February 26, 2024: Message from Jason

I’m excited about our 2024 Annual Conference, March 5-6, where we take the next step in our journey with the strategic vision and direction. During the conference we’ll spend time focusing on our commitments as an organization and what it means for our individual work.

As you prepare for the conference, I ask you to think about what Iowa State University Extension and Outreach needs to do to fulfill our internal commitments. What will it take to:

  • Focus on impacts that make a difference in the lives of Iowans and the world.
  • Embrace the land-grant mission of engagement, discovery, and learning.
  • Take an interdisciplinary and systems approach to addressing complex issues facing Iowa and the world.
  • Invest in people and partnerships.
  • Diversify sources of funding in alignment with our purpose.

What do we do well that needs to continue and what do we need to do differently going forward?

As a reminder, Annual Conference registration closes today, February 26, at 11:59 p.m. If you haven’t registered yet, please visit the Annual Conference website today for registration details, the agenda, and other information.

I look forward to seeing you at Annual Conference.

New collaborator space for catalyst funding

Thanks to all of you that were able to join the catalyst funding webinar last week. A lot of information was shared, and I want to highlight a new virtual Catalyst Funding Collaborator Space you can use to share topics and source collaborators as you develop initiatives, programs, or research projects that will help ISU Extension and Outreach serve as a catalyst for growth and change in the lives of Iowans and the world. The Collaborator Space allows you to share your own ideas for projects, explore your interest in your colleagues’ projects, and describe the collaborators your team needs. Designed and developed by field and operations staff, it is an example of catalysts in action, bridging the county/campus divide. Keep in mind that proposals for catalyst funding must have a county/campus collaboration and are due April 15. The webinar and collaboration tool are available on MyExtension.

Sharing our impact

Last week, we shared impact of ISU Extension and Outreach with our state elected officials during ISU Day at the Capitol and the Iowa Extension Council Association breakfast. In addition, the new Real Impact 2023 Report, which illustrates how ISU Extension and Outreach is a catalyst for change and growth in Iowa, was released. Going forward, a single story from the report will be featured every month on our external website and social media. The first in-depth story and video highlights a Louisa County 4-H club that helped their school district save nearly $1.5 million in energy costs – real impact of ISU Extension and Outreach in action. Related resources to help you share our impact are available from MyExtension.
