Expanding Small Business: Mr. Burrito

Mr. Burrito is a family owned and operated small business that wanted to expand. With guidance from ISU Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development, these Latinx entrepreneurs planned their expansion step-by-step.

Growing Together Iowa

Growing Together Iowa combines extension expertise in horticulture, food safety, and nutrition education with Master Gardener volunteers to develop community donation gardens throughout the state. The goal is to make the healthy choice the easy choice for Iowans.

Finding a Path to College and Careers

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach helps Latinx youth and their families gain information, skills, resources and networks so these young people can find a path to college and careers.

Extension Artists Inspire Iowans, Celebrate State Parks

Jennifer Drinkwater and Clark Colby are artists, Iowa State faculty and program specialists with ISU Extension and Outreach. They are participating in Iowa's 20 Artists, 20 Parks project commemorating the 100th anniversary of Iowa State Parks during 2020.

County Fair Experiences Are for All 4-H Youth

County fairs give 4-H members a chance to demonstrate new skills and share what they have learned. Two Washington County youth show what is possible with good communication and understanding prior to the event.

Building Healthy Relationships

When a couple has a strong, stable relationship, they can build a healthy foundation for their family. That’s the message of Healthy Relationship Education Training. ISU Extension and Outreach recently offered the training to Iowa State ROTC students who will serve as leaders in the military after graduation.

Our Story: 4-H Youth Apply Animal Science

The next generation of animal scientists – and technicians, engineers and mathematicians – are examining their interests and testing future careers, thanks to Iowa 4-H. Youth learn and apply animal science through 4-H projects and activities such as Animal Science Round-Up.

Our Story: Latinos Living Well

A little exercise, a little cooking, some education about diabetes and a lot of fun: That’s the recipe for “Latinos Living Well,” a research and community based program from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach that leads to behavior change.

Our Story: Small Talk for Early Literacy

Yes, you can read to babies. Through “Small Talk,” Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the Ames Public Library and Raising Readers in Story County are helping parents build literacy skills in very young children.

Our Story: Gardening for Food Pantries

Start with an idea: grow fresh produce for donation to food pantries. Mix together ISU Extension and Outreach nutrition education, Master Gardeners and ISU Research and Demonstration Farms. The goal: More than 10,000 pounds of food for Iowans in need.

Our Story: Hands on Hyperstream Tech Clubs

4-H youth are trying robotics, game design and multimedia in Hyperstream, a STEM Scale-Up program. ISU Extension and Outreach offers Hyperstream tech clubs to engage young people and excite them about careers in STEM.

Our Story: Women Managing Cattle

Women Managing Cattle is a program for farm women to meet, share their experiences in the cattle industry, and learn from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialists. Women are important in agriculture, and the cattle business is no different. The Women Managing Cattle program hopes to build relationships and educate women in the cattle business by focusing on cost of production, marketing strategies and production systems.
