Half a million visitors had the opportunity to visit "Camp Cy - a Statewide Adventure" during the Iowa State Fair Aug. 13-23. They could engage with camp staff about Iowa State University and the ways extension and outreach works in every Iowa county.
Curiosity and laughter highlighted Camp Cy as visitors, young and old, found their favorite state fair foods with the food app, rode a virtual roller coaster with the oculus rifts, held walking sticks and other big bugs, watched the life cycle of monarch butterflies, explored the power of water at the stream table and wrote letters to Cy. Many people came to take pictures of sports trophies and CyclONE City statues, get tattoos and football posters - then were drawn into the activities extension and outreach provided.
