On Their Own and Ok Program
The On Their Own and Ok program is for youth in grades 4-6 who may begin staying home on their own for a short time, like after school.  Through activities and conversation, participants will explore family rules, avoid boredom, safety, emergencies, and make lunch and a snack.  The program will run 9:30 am – 3:30 pm with participants sharing what they learned at 3:00 pm.  Registration includes a $25 fee and is due one week before the program. The program will be offered at the following locations:
March 16        Story County ISU Extension & Outreach, Nevada
March 23        Community Center, Collins
Water Rocks!
Water Rock! Day Camp is for youth in 3-6 and will be held Thursday, March 8 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at McFarland Park.  Through activities participants will learn about the amazing Mississippi Watershed and the great things found in it like water, soil, animals, and more.  Participants will also explore careers and how they can help take care of the watershed at home and in their communities.  The program is being offered in partnership with Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach, Water Rocks! and ISU Extension and Outreach – Story County.  Registration is due with a $25 payment by March 1.
Winging It!
3rd and 4th graders can come stretch their wings, fly like a falcon, and engage their owl eyes! They will discover birds through activities, games, crafts, and more!  This day camp will be held Monday, March 12 from 9 am – 3:30 pm at McFarland Park and is co-sponsored by ISU Extension and Outreach - Story County and Story County Conservation. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch, a full water bottle, and dressed to hike outside part of the day. FLEX (Forward Learning Experience)
Story County Extension will be bringing the Forward Learning Experience (FLEX) to the Nevada Public Library on March 13 from 1 – 3 pm.  Through the FLEX experience, visitors will explore circuit bending with littleBits, observe 3D printing, and take a virtual roller coaster tour of the Iowa State University campus.
Babysitting Basics
The Babysitting Basics class, for youth in fifth and sixth grade will be held March 15 at the ISU Extension and Outreach – Story Countyoffice from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Participants will learn the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect, and how to care for younger children. Guest speakers will teach about ages and stages of youth, babysitter safety, first aid and rescue breathing.  Registration with a $25 fee is due by March 5.
