Babysitting Basics Classes in Huxley and Roland

Three stacked blocks with A, B, and C written on them.

A Babysitting Basics class for youth in fifth and sixth grade is being offered by ISU Extension and Outreach two times in June.  Both classes will run from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  One class will be hosted on June 5 at the Huxley Public Library in partnership with Huxley Park and Recreation.  The second class will be hosted June 7 at the Roland Public Library.  Both locations are limited to twenty participants.
Participants will learn about the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect, and how to care for infants and toddlers.  There will also be guest speakers teaching on the subjects of age appropriate toys and activities, safety, and basic first aid and rescue breathing.  All participants receive a book filled with information about childcare as well as a certificate of completion at the end of the course.
Registration forms are available at and are due with the $25 registration fee by May 25.  For questions about Babysitting Basics, contact the ISU Extension and Outreach – Story County office at 515-382-6551 or email Mary Wilkins, Youth Outreach Coordinator, at
