Adult Learning Strategies: Writing Clear Learning Objectives

Learning objectives are the foundational building blocks for any educational event. This workshop empowers faculty and staff of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to write effective learning objectives for use in curriculum writing, programs, workshops, and/or courses. 

By taking this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between learning objectives and learning goals
  • Explain the importance of learning objectives for learning and teaching
  • List the characteristics of effective learning objectives
  • Write learning objectives for your program, course, and/or workshop

Course Information

 Time Requirement

This is an online program offered in a flipped format: participants work through the online asynchronous materials and then participate in a synchronous cohort video conference. It will take approximately 1-3 hours to work through the independent study portion and the cohort video conference is scheduled for 1.5 hours.

  • Day 1 (usually a Monday) - online learning material is available
  • Day 1-7 - participants work through the online material at their convenience (1-3 hours)
  • Day 7 (usually a Monday) cohort video conference schedule for 1.5 hours. Please refer to your confirmation email message for the exact date and time.

 Cost to Participants

There is no fee for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach faculty and staff to participate.
