What is 4-H?

4-H youth programs provide opportunities for youth to develop skills they can use throughout their life. Iowa 4-H builds upon a century of experience as it fosters positive youth development that is based on the needs and strengths of youth, their families, and communities.

What do 4-H'ers do?

TONS of things! Kids learn by doing in 4-H, with the help of positive adults. 4-H members join a learning community (commonly known as clubs) who help foster a fun, safe environment. Within their clubs, members can explore topics they are interested in and showcase what they learned at local and state events! From paintings and quilts to livestock and dance, the possibilities are endless!
Here are some things that Poweshiek County 4-H members have done:

  • Taken amazing photographs
  • Refinished a dresser
  • Raised a calf and kept a budget
  • Learned how to sew a quilt
  • Participated in robotics challenges
  • Presented educational presentations
  • Attended youth leadership conferences
  • Made French Macarons and other recipes

As a 4-H member, YOU choose what interests YOU and learn through hands on activities!
