Register for ‘Stay Independent’ Nutrition and Wellness Program now offered in Bondurant

“Stay Independent” is a nutrition and wellness program offered through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Polk County for adults age 60 and older. This four-session program begins Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Bondurant Public Library - 104 2nd St. NE. Bondurant, IA 50035.

“Nutrition risk assessments of older Iowans living in Des Moines revealed that nearly one out of four are at risk for malnutrition or are malnourished,” said Mary Krisco, a human sciences specialist in nutrition and wellness. “We want to give older Iowans the tools they need to live their lives to the fullest!”

These three habits can lead to poor health:
·      not eating three meals a day
·      not eating enough produce and protein, and
·      not being physically active.

“Stay Independent” is a FUN, research-based nutrition and wellness class intended to help adults age 60 and older live a healthy lifestyle. The program includes four high-energy lessons: Three Meals a Day, Feast on Fruits and Vegetables, Power Up with Protein, and Exercise Your Independence.

The weekly sessions will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will include discussion, tastings of various healthy dishes, and practice of muscle-strengthening exercise.
