Preserve the Taste of Summer Workshop

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering a comprehensive course for home food preservation. Preserve the Taste of Summer offers eight online lessons followed by a hands-on workshop given by a registered dietician. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning how to safely preserve foods. 
 
Online lesson topics include:
1. Food Safety
2. Canning basics
3. Canning acid foods
4. Pressure canning low-acid foods
5. Preparation and canning of pickled and fermented foods
6. Making and preserving fruit spreads
7. Freezing foods, storage of frozen and refrigerated foods
8. Drying foods
 
Once participants have completed the online lessons, they will be eligible to attend the hands-on workshop held Saturday, June 23rd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Youth Center - 5050 Doanes Road, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327
