Iowa 4-H Volunteers Inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame

On Sunday, August 20, 121 Iowa 4-H volunteers from 94 counties were inducted into the 2017 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair. The inductees enjoyed a celebratory reception, sponsored by donors to the Iowa 4-H Foundation, shortly after the presentation ceremony.

The honorees were selected by their respective counties for their service and dedication to 4-H, contributions to the lives of 4-H’ers and the program. Inductees served as club leaders, fair board members, council members, judges, financial supporters, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach staff members and various other positions. The inductees have demonstrated dedication, encouragement, commitment and guidance to Iowa’s 4-H youth through their years of service.

Joann Tiernan joined the Pocahontas County Grant Glisteners 4-H club in 1970, and was an active member throughout her school years.  Joann and Brian were married in 1983 and have 2 children, Lindsey and Travis.

Joann was a leader of the Bellville Bells 4-H club for 5 years.  Joann was then hired by the Pocahontas County Fair Board as the Fair Board Manager and Secretary in 2001 and remains at that position today.

Brian became involved in 4-H in 1993 helping Lindsey and Travis with their 4-H projects.  Not only has Brian assisted his own children throughout their 4-H career he has been a wonderful volunteer and role model for other 4-H’ers.

Brian serves on the swine committee and is our “go to guy” for anything the staff, parents, or volunteers need during the fair. He continues to help Joann as head of maintenance.

Joann and Brian continue to enjoy the Pocahontas County Fair and plan to be active for many years to come.
