ISU Extension and Outreach Pocahontas County will be holding a Babysitting Clinic for 5th – 6th graders. The Babysitting Clinic will be held on Friday, June 8, 2017 from 9:00am – 2:00pm at the Pocahontas County Extension and Outreach Office (305 North Main St.). Participants will learn the basics of CPR, home safety, money management, how to make a healthy snack. They will finish the day discussing the ages and stages of young children. Participants will be provided a pizza lunch. Register early by calling 712-335-3103, class size is limited to 20 participants. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week is April 16-21. We are highlighting Pocahontas County clients and staff this week!

April showers bring May flowers, according to common songs, poems and nursery rhymes. “However, April showers also bring fun-filled puddles, squishy mud, earth worms and a host of other rich outdoor learning experiences for children,” says Cindy Thompson, human sciences specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach-Buena Vista County, the Office of Civic Engagement-Buena Vista University, and SALUD! of Storm Lake invites all interested parties working with, supporting or interested in food insecurity issues to join individuals from Northwest Iowa to share ideas, learn about new and existing grass roots projects, program and funding opportunities, and learn about how you or your organizations can work together to spark a difference in your community.

Mark Your Calendars for the Pocahontas County Master Gardeners 12th Annual Garden Extravaganza on April 13, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. & April 14,  9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Expo Center located at the Pocahontas Fairgrounds. The Garden Extravaganza will feature garden plants and décor for sale, door prizes, classes, workshops, and educational handouts.

Returning this year will be a Friday Evening Session 5:00 -7:00 p.m. with wine tasting and appetizers.

On Saturday, the Pocahontas Garden Club will serve coffee and rolls at 9:00 a.m. for a nominal fee and a maid-rite lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. for a small fee. Saturday presentations will be held in the Fair Office at 9:15 a.m. with Duren Watts, Grass Master, Algona and 10:30 a.m. with Neil Peterson, Southern Animal Husbandry, Laos.
