Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week celebrates service for a strong Iowa

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week is April 16-21. We are highlighting Pocahontas County clients and staff this week!

An overall decrease of 5.6 percent for custom work can be expected in 2018, according to results of the 2018 Custom Rate Survey, conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Mark Your Calendars for the Pocahontas County Master Gardeners 12th Annual Garden Extravaganza on April 13, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. & April 14,  9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Expo Center located at the Pocahontas Fairgrounds. The Garden Extravaganza will feature garden plants and décor for sale, door prizes, classes, workshops, and educational handouts.

Returning this year will be a Friday Evening Session 5:00 -7:00 p.m. with wine tasting and appetizers.

On Saturday, the Pocahontas Garden Club will serve coffee and rolls at 9:00 a.m. for a nominal fee and a maid-rite lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. for a small fee. Saturday presentations will be held in the Fair Office at 9:15 a.m. with Duren Watts, Grass Master, Algona and 10:30 a.m. with Neil Peterson, Southern Animal Husbandry, Laos.

  • The ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship is a gateway that works in two directions. In one direction, ISU faculty, researchers, and students become connected to the entrepreneurial world. In the other, Iowa's business and entrepreneurial community gain access to an array of resources and information within Iowa State University.

  • The Agricultural Marketing Resource Center is an electronic, national resource for producers interested in value-added agriculture. Browse commodities and products, investigate market and industry trends, study business creation and operation, read research results and locate value-added resources.

  • Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management Extension provides resources for the hospitality industry.

  • Data on each county in Iowa including population demographics, education, retail sales, personal income, employment, occupation, housing, and family characteristics.

  • The Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) conducts research, counsels, and trains business people in management, financing, and operating small businesses, and provides comprehensive information services and access to experts in a variety of fields.

  • The Value Added Agriculture Program (VAAP) provides unbiased, science-based information to help establish or expand agricultural-related businesses in Iowa.
