The Youth Program Summer Assistant supports Iowa State University Extension and Outreach with the preparation and delivery of summer educational programs. Primary responsibilities include support and coordination of K-12 youth programs, especially in relation to the O’Brien County Youth Fair preparation and delivery as part of the 4-H Youth Development Program in O’Brien County to improve the effectiveness and efficient delivery of programming.

In its fourth year, O’Brien County Career Day connects high school sophomores with local business and career opportunities in their home county. New this year, the O’Brien County Career Day committee, in partnership with local businesses, will also award one $500 scholarship to a past attendee.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Horticulture Program Coordinator Dawn Henderson will host “Houseplants & Propagation” on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hull Public Library. The home horticulture program is open to the public and will focus on how to grow and propagate houseplants. According to Henderson, houseplants are some of the simplest plants to grow and multiply.

STEM Fest, Junior is open to 1st through 3rd graders. Youth are invited to spend the morning learning and having fun while participating in hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities hosted by the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Northwest Iowa Youth Development Team. 

January 16, 2020

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach, in partnership with Project STOMP, will offer four free Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings in Northwest Iowa during February and early-March. The training is open to any individuals who work with youth and teens on a daily basis. Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches adults who work with 12-to-18-year-old youth the skills they need to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health issues, including: anxiety, depression, eating disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and/or substance abuse problems.
