Fruit Tree Workshops Offer Hands-on Apple Tree Grafting

ISU Extension and Outreach provides tree grafting workshop for homeowners


apples on treeAmes, Iowa – Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering fruit tree grafting workshops on March 28, March 29, April 6 and April 7. Participants will hear a presentation on why and how to graft fruit trees by commercial horticulture specialist Patrick O’Malley and take part in a hands-on apple tree grafting demonstration.

“As spring approaches, we are offering four apple tree grafting workshops to homeowners, gardeners or horticulture enthusiasts to demonstrate and practice a whip and tongue graft with apple rootstocks,” O’Malley said. “We will also provide information on how to care for grafted trees in your landscape.”

Grafting workshop locations and dates

Preregistration is required one week prior to the workshop. Limit of 30 people per workshop.

Registration fee includes rootstocks, scions and equipment needed to self-graft two apple trees to take home for $35 per person. For any two or more registering together, the fee is discounted at $30 each. Additional apple rootstock will be available for $5 each.
