Data for Decision Makers Iowa State Profile.AMES, Iowa – Policymakers and community leaders now have an updated tool to inform their decision making. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has released the latest updates to the state Data for Decision Makers reports, including those for the Iowa House and the Iowa Senate districts. These updates provide a comprehensive overview of demographic and socioeconomic data, supporting informed community planning and policymaking, and are available on the ISU Extension and Outreach Indicators Program website.

The updated state DDM, along with the distinct Iowa House and Senate district DDMs, use data from the 2010 and the 2020 censuses and the latest five-year American Community Survey estimates. These reports offer detailed insights into demographic data on race, age, population, households and families, as well as socioeconomic data on housing, education, occupation, employment and poverty. The reports also compare Iowa's figures with national averages, providing policymakers and community leaders with a broader context to understand state-specific conditions and make informed decisions about district-specific trends.

Sandra Burke, a sociologist and extension research scientist, highlighted the importance of the reports. "These updates provide a broad view of demographic shifts and challenges, empowering policymakers with the necessary tools for effective public interventions," Burke said.

The reports and updates are produced by the data and technology team within ISU Extension and Outreach’s Community and Economic Development unit.
