The 2018 Iowa Forage and Grassland Council Conference will feature speakers and topics of interest to producers raising livestock on pastures.
Tom Kaspar will discuss lessons learned from using cover crops to reduce losses of nitrate during the Iowa Learning Farms webinar Wednesday, Dec. 13 at noon. Kaspar is a plant physiologist at the USDA-ARS National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment.
Brian Sampson, a Story County farmer, will discuss his transition to strip-tillage and addition cover crops as well as his experience with the conservation planning process with the NRCS and Iowa Learning Farms. Iowa State specialists are also on the agenda.
Ann Staudt, assistant manager of the Iowa Learning Farms, will discuss ILF’s recent research that analyzes the relationship between earthworm populations, cover crops and overall soil health during the ILF monthly webinar on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
ISU Extension and Outreach will host seminars during November and December to provide participants with a concise evaluation of current market conditions, expected trends in crop and livestock income potential, and management implications.
