Thirteen Iowa 4-H members joined more than 1,000 young people from 33 states at the Western National Roundup Jan. 4-7 in Denver, Colo. Iowa 4-H’ers placed in the top 10 for several events, both as teams and individuals.
The Franklin County team, comprised of Jaiden Shahan, Lane Abbas and Isaac Vosburg, answered their way through six rounds of questions to win top honors against 12 other teams from across the United States.

Six Iowa teams participated in the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program’s seventh annual Crop Scouting Competition on July 31. The first place overall winning team at this year’s competition is Kuhlman Seed from Denison.
Iowa State University and USA Boxing’s Parkin-A-Punch program is a semifinalist for The Encore Prize: Generation to Generation Challenge. The public can vote for Parkin-A-Punch once per day through Aug. 31 and help this project advance to the final stage of judging.
Sixteen Iowa 4-H youth have qualified to compete alongside 700 4-H youth from 36 states in the 2017 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships, hosted by the University of Nebraska Lincoln and Nebraska 4-H.
The Iowa 4-H dairy quiz bowl competition was held June 15 in Arlington, Iowa. Forty-five youth competed in this educational contest conducted by Iowa State University Department of Animal Science and ISU Extension and Outreach.
The seventh annual Crop Scouting Competition for Iowa Youth will be July 31 at the Field Extension Education Laboratory in Boone, Iowa at 1928 240th Street.
