A series of workshops covering sustainable hop production will help individuals interested in growing hops learn more about its production. The ISU Extension and Outreach series will be offered throughout 2017.
Growing hops is critically important to producing beer, the primary product made from the crop. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Fruit Specialist Diana Cochran is authoring a series of publications that will provide information on all different aspects of hop production, beginning with "Hop Production 101: Site selection and planting."
Only one acre is planted, with nearly 1,000 plants, but it required a lot of work and a team of horticulturists to accomplish the new hops endeavor at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station north of Ames.
