AMES, Iowa — Iowa Learning Farms, along with Walnut Creek Watershed, Practical Farmers of Iowa and Natural Resources Conservation Service, will host a cover crop field day on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The 12:30-2:30 p.m. field day will be held at the Montgomery County Historical Center in Red Oak. The event is free and open to the public and includes a complementary meal.
The event will feature a panel of Montgomery County cover crop farmers including Gary Johnson, Mike Johnson, Mark Peterson, Dave Robinette and Kent Swanson. They will discuss how they have incorporated cover crops into their farming operations, and offer tips for success and overcoming challenges.
Also speaking at the field day is Sarah Carlson, Midwest Cover Crop Director with Practical Farmers of Iowa. She will share results from on-farm cover crop research projects and ideas for maximizing cover crop benefits.
